Lately, there have been quite a few nights where I'll find nothing good on tv, except for one channel that has some common sense and decides to show The Negotiator. A flick that I didn't get the chance to see for myself til my roommate sat me through it one night a couple years ago, it is definitely a highlight of how elements of Action | Crime | Drama | Mystery | Thriller | Suspense can all be mixed together with one bad ass result.
Years before Samuel Jackson was going after snakes on planes on his way to becoming a Jedi, and with dreams of jailbait coming soon on his way to fighting Superman for Kevin Spacey, The Negotiator was released upon the world in the wake of Saving Private Ryan and There's Something About Mary, muting it's impact and preventing the flick from hitting $45 million. I was actually surprised at how it didn't set the world on fire, though the fact that it's such a well done "whodunit?" film has only helped it's reputation grow.
The long and short of the flick: Negotiator Danny Roman (Samuel L. Mother Fucking Jackson) stumbles upon a case of corrupt cops and stolen funds, which he ends up framed for in the wake of the murder of his partner. Intent on doing whatever it takes to clear his name, the only man he can trust is fellow Negotiator Chris Sabian (Lex Luthor) to help clear his name. Featuring an all-star supporting cast including Paul Giamatti (Shoot 'Em Up), David Morse (Disturbia), Siobhan Fallon (Forrest Gump, Men In Black, The Bounty Hunter), and Ron Rifkin (Brothers & Sisters, L.A. Confidential), it's a flick that keeps you guessing up until the end the first time through.
With that said, if you have any intention of watching the movie with some element of surprise in regards to the guessing game plot, it's advised to click out by the 3:05 mark where some of the twists of the plot come into play.
So with Samuel L. trying to clear his name with his back against the wall, there was pretty much only one track in mind. To accompany the epicness of The Negotiator, there's no better choice than "Back Against The Wall" by Cage the Elephant, one of my favorite can't-help-itself-but-kick-ass songs.
So with no further ado, Dizzle presents to you The Negotiator, featuring "Back Against The Wall" by Cage the Elephant. There's no negotiating this one - just click it.
