It's Halloween Time! That means Clifton Park's House on Haunted Hill, presented by CPFunHouse.cjb.net

VIDEO: "1408" featuring "Despicable" by Eminem

What I'm gonna attempt to do to go with a "Halloween" theme for the month of October is to add a horror themed highlight video each Sunday during the month. To kick this off, the first choice for the month is Stephen King's 1408. What started off as nothing more than a writing assignment for a non-fiction book on how to revise a first draft, 1408 would evolve into a short story on it's way to scaring up $70 million in box office receipts for the film adaption.

Now normally, I am a firm believer in the theory that if a horror movie isn't rated R, there's a 99% chance that it's gonna blow goats. I've used this theory ever since everyone talked up The Ring, causing me to waste $15 on a used DVD copy a few years back. But leave it to 1408 to throw the monkey wrench in my logic. Never have I been at a packed theater for a PG-13 movie that made the entire audience collectively jump on multiple occasions. What the flick lacks in blood and gore, it more than makes up for with atmosphere while also pulling out the psychological stops.

I'm a little amazed I made it this far without mentioning the name "John Cusack", so let's change that. Playing the role of author of the supernatural Mike Enslin, Cusack further cements his legacy as the everyman who audiences can relate to and sympathize with, even in a situation as ridiculous as a haunted hotel room fucking with the guest. Throw in a little bit of Samuel L. Jackson to protect the hotel from killer snakes and Darth Vader, and what could be a train wreck is elevated to more levels of awesomeness.

Now the song choice for this video might seem a little odd, but it's one that I'd been mulling over for a while til I was certain that it would work out: Eminem's "Despicable" freestyle, featuring the beats for "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley" by Lloyd Banks and "Over" by Drake. It might not jump off the page as the perfect track, but there's no denying how well it flows to the highlights.

Speaking of which, it's time to stop delaying the inevitable, as Dizzle presents to you 1408, featuring'"Despicable" by Eminem. Enjoy your stay, but remember: "It's an evil fuckin' room." -Sam Jackson

We'll see you next Sunday, 10/10/10 (HOLY SHITE!) for another Halloween update. --Tommy Dizzlemits

Halloween Update for Sunday 10/10/10 pushed to 10/12/10 due to me planning on picketing all the weddings that day... or because I'm busy otherwise and have completed movies that have blocked rights on YouTube... you decide! --TDizzlemits
