When Apatow Productions took off in the late 90's, with critically-loved yet short-lived series like Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared, it was most certainly evident that just like the rest of us, Judd Apatow knew what it was like to go through those-awkward teenage years. Though the next few years of Apatow Productions saw the jump to film with awesome low-brow humor (Anchorman & Talladega Nights) and seemingly vulgar tales with a heart firmly wedged into the center (40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up), there wasn't quite one of those coming-of-age post-pubescent stories that earned so many accolades at the start of the company.
Then came Superbad, which could the most relatable tale of all time for what it's like to go through high school and simultaneously be a producer of testosterone.
Now if this were a group of us conversing out for dinner or at the bar, this would be the point where someone interjects, "Pffft! Befriending police? Stealing booze from a random party where you'd get killed?? No arrests at the high school party??? THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, STUPID!"
Well, duh. Welcome to the movies. Forget about the out-of-control events, and just open your ears to some of the conversations of the characters. Yes, there's lots of dick jokes, talk of getting laid, fuckin' every fuckin' other fuckin' word; really, it does the job of making you feel like you stepped back into a time machine and set it for "High School Lunch Table".
For all the shit people talk about Seth Rogen, his screen writing abilities alongside his best friend Evan Goldberg can not me denied. They may be filthy minded, but they're filthy minded poets, using "fuck" "shit" and "dick" as brush strokes to paint a vulgar, yet colorfully accurate, portrait for anyone who has grown up. The ability to paint such vivid pictures through language is the one thing that doesn't fade from this movie, even if you don't agree with the positive notices the movie received.
And if you've forgotten what lovely pictures were painted with such reprehensible language... well, that's what the Dizzle treatment is for. Have you ever wondered if the plot of Superbad could be conveyed in around 7 minutes? Throw a little attention on the teenage angst moments, and it sure as hell is possible.
So now, without further ado, Dizzle presents to you Sevenmin Superbad featuring "Love Like a Sunset" by Phoenix.
Good shit, right Miroki? [-Evan]
